Information about SOPH's Ministers' Course
Welcome to the new Interfaith Ministerial program
on Long Island, sponsored by the Sanctuary of Peace & Harmony,
Inc. and Rev. Kathryn A. Barley. The
focus of this program is to create a training that will form the
basis for a spiritual healing/counseling practice.
The course is designed to be an intensive program
that exposes the student to many of the incredibly diverse healing
modalities present in our consciousness today - some of which have
been around for ages. This is an experiential program, and involves
your active participation. At the successful completion of all requirements
you will be an Ordained Interfaith Minister and Spiritual Counselor.
The course is two years in length, culminating in Ordination.
The course emphasizes
that ministers need to be in their own process of healing, in order
to compassionately and positively fulfill their life purpose. You’ll
be encouraged to formulate your own distinctive spiritual practice.
The community that each ministerial class creates
is an essential support to this personal process, as well as an
enormous advantage in the experience of your own growth.
A Retreat will be organized for each minister's class near the middle of the second year, which is required. A final examination, minister's manual and some reading are also required.
As a student member of this course, you’ll be joining a larger family that continues
to work and grow together. Successful completion of this course
will also open the door to any other programs or events of the Sanctuary.
The Areas of Study:
- World Religions: A fascinating
history of the origins of the world’s largest religions, including indigenous peoples and goddess
worship, (Buddhism, Taoism, etc). This study gives you a rich background of understanding of all those that potentially you might come into contact within your ministering.
- Counseling Practices: Psychiatry/psychology history provide the foundation for the counseling classes,
which will emphasize the special situations that spiritual counselors
face; also includes mind-body therapies, emotional release work, breathwork,
grief/dying counseling, regression therapies and more.
- Ceremonies: Experience the
joy of legally performing ceremonies such as marriages, baby naming's, house blessings
etc. Learn to compose, interview and execute these sacred rites. See how ritual and ceremony can be integrated into everyday
life, bringing greater meaning, fulfillment and healing.
- Additional Areas of Discovery: Enjoy hands-on experience with: meditation - chanting - prayer
- poetry - affirmations - chi kung/tai chi - feng shui - yoga
- reflexology - energy and body work, earth consciousness/ ecology/
conservancy and the power of sound/tone/music and much more ...
